KenderTheater (@KenderTheater)
NT Live's film of the outstanding UK stage production of David Hare's #Skylight is a winner that should not be missed.  Director Stephen Daldry brings out the best in the play and the terrific acting leads Carey Mulligan and Bill Nighy.  Mulligan is once again luminous and confirms that she is the best actress of her generation.  The screen close ups on Ms. Mulligan allow the viewer to feel the soulfullness of her performance.

"Curious" Is Hugely Rewarding

KenderTheater (@KenderTheater)
"The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" is a fantastic National Theatre production of a fine stage adaptation of the novel that surprises, informs and dazzles its audience.  It is creatively and fluidly staged with an auspicious & stunning Broadway debut by recent Julliard grad Alex Sharp.  This deserves to be as big of a hit in the US as it has proven to be in the UK.

Old Globe's "Bright Star" has a dim and dated plot

KenderTheater (@KenderTheater)
The new Steve Martin & Edie Brickell musical "Bright Star" @TheOldGlobe is a major disappointment given the pedigree of its creators.  Yes, it features solid production elements, a talented cast (with one major exception, the terrible actor and singer playing Major Dobbs), solid direction and some beautiful music.  But the song lyrics lack subtlety and the book by Steve Martin tells a hackneyed and boring story.  I could see the major plot "reveal" from a time zone away; it was so obvious that I felt it had to be a set up for an unexpected twist that never arrived.

Admittedly the matinee audience I saw it with (average age was in the 70s) seemed to love it.  If this is the future of American musical theater (and I sure hope it is not), we are going to be doing a time warp again.
